More than just a Dream?

Picture courtesy of: A Dreamy World
As I have mentioned before in a previous post, I keep having recurring dreams. I think what is most interesting about these recurring dreams is that the events may differ but the location, the landscape, the houses, the feelings are always the same. I digress...
My most recent recurring dream was in this city. I've been here countless times in my dreams and I am certain I have never been to any place like it in real life. It appears to be a real life commercial city, and many events have happened here - in my dreams. It has several elegant plazas and shopping malls on the most prominent strip. Both sides have factories (furniture and pillows for e.g) and malls interspersed with popular restaurants. They also have connecting allies that could take you behind the buildings. For example, in one of my previous dreams, in this same location, I dreamt that behind those allies were very dangerous and that there were mobsters or some very dark and dangerous people who would start chasing you if you ventured too far. Not because they necessarily wanted to harm you, but that you would be caught up in an ongoing turf war.
On another ally, on the opposite side of the strip, you would end up in a humongous low income residential community. There were several floors of these very tiny apartments and they were literally as tall as the sky scraping malls and factories. I have been on the inside of one of the apartment floors, in previous dreams. Each unit is very small and very hot, the walls are very thin and the best view is the neighbours' living room window on the opposite apartment building or maybe the back wall of the shopping malls. It all depends, I suppose. There are also connecting hall ways running through the apartment buildings and they are most times cluttered with junk and rubbish, no graffiti.Generally the front of the city's strip is very warm and promising. The road is immaculate, expansive and spanking new, the paint on it fresh. But once you venture off the strip it gets dangerous, dark and ominous. This also applies to the inside of some of the malls. Things aren't always as they appear.
The malls have a variety of stores; art, hobby, women's and children clothing, home furnishing, you name it. But once you venture off by yourself on the stairs or in an elevator darkness ensues. Not so much in the form of persons, but more in the form of a dark presence and a feeling of being dangerously lost and in trouble.
Another place that has stuck with me, from this city, is this popular hangout spot. People are constantly going in and out like robots. It is located on the corner of one end of a strip and a connecting ally. The outside is very straightforward. It has a plain grassy area for dances (adult crowd); a section with regular swings, tire swings, slides and other interesting rides (for children); a hilly area that leads out to the beach where people can picnic, lay around or what not and a bay area where one could board a mini 'barge' for a midnight sail (which could also be very dangerous) as I have experienced in a previous dream.
However, right next door to this area is what I can only describe as a 'giddy house', as the rooms constantly change. It is the most unpredictable part of the city. It is a one story building, red and black in color and shaped like an octagon. It is generally dark whether night or day. I have been there before  for a meeting (it had a podium and was set up like a miniature Roman stadium); for a movie at another time (set up like a lecture room) with a big screen; searching the passageways looking for someone and for a cheer leading event (it had a stadium like feel but there was actual grass).
When awake, I always have several questions concerning what I saw and experienced. In the dream the city feels so real, so tangible like I was actually there in real life. Then whenever I return everything is so precise and so exact, even the unpredictability of the 'giddy house'. Most times I can't help but wonder if this city and my visits are more than just a dream...

A Matter of Time

I don't think it's any coincidence that God's time  seems to be the theme for this month. There just always seems to be a time line involved in everything we want to get done. Anyway, as my birthday is fast approaching I've been spending time reflecting, going through pictures, reading my journals just really reflecting to get some perspective. What was interesting was that while going through the journal I just happened to buck up this to-do list...yea...one of those goal to-do lists  where I need to do x by y time . Funnily, the list was written back in 2006 and it had check boxes placed next to the goals. I noticed that at least 3 boxes were still not ticked at the time, while others were ticked and dated...and now for the surprise the unchecked were: 1. Become a lacto-ovo vegetarian  2. Go Natural and 3. Something else that I can't quite remember now.. . It was very funny to me, as reading it marked the 8th day since I had gone vegan with no desire for mea...

Perspective

There was a time I used to think single and alone is the worst thing a person could be. There were days I would sit on my teenage bed staring at the ceiling wondering why I wasn't desirable and I could hear my mom outside my window getting on with life - busying herself with laundry and other household chores.  Since my mother's death I have realized that the worst thing a person could be is ungrateful. Everyday there is something or someone in our lives to be grateful for.  The next worst thing a person could be is regretful. When you lose a loved one it's all you have - regret. I was so close to my mom yet I still regret the moments I wasted on the imaginary whos that were never in my life when I could have spent that time goofing around and learning more from my mother. Takeaway : Life is a gift and so are the people who were placed in our lives. Treasure who is in your life as tomorrow is promised to no one.

Overcoming The Disappointments of 2020

Never in a hundred years did I think I would be writing about a disease that has forced the complete shut down of the world. It’s caused me to think a lot and empathize with people and myself about our shared disappointment of how this year has turned out. Let’s recap the outbreak of the novel Corona virus in late 2019 (allegedly with a Chinese wet market as the epicentre): The virus made its way to over 130 countries The virus spurred a pandemic with panic buying & hoarding of essential items  Several countries imposed travel bans and closed their borders Several countries limit movement and impose curfews to prevent the spread Non - essential businesses are ordered to close leading to mass layoffs Humans are instructed to stay in place at home and practice social distancing when they have to be out and about. Connected By Disappointment This all sounds stranger than fiction in writing but it is our shared reality right now and quite frankly many of us are ...
